LeBron James and Adam Sandler have teamed up as producers on sports drama Hustle. Sandler, who starred in the film, is known for his love of basketball. He also knows hoops and even went to the LA Lakers Superstar for advice.
Sandler guest-starred on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote Hustle. The Happy Gilmore actor revealed it was The King who called him and offered him a partnership for the film. James’ SpringHill Company wrote the script and is one of three production companies involved.
“His company, LeBron’s company and Joe Roth, they had this great script,” Sandler said. “It was about a scout who discovered someone was supervising and brought him into the NBA and it was great.”
Adam Sandler also shared a story about asking James for advice on his hoop skills.
Sandler is a huge fan of the game and plays regularly whenever his schedule allows. He was caught on video playing basketball at the gym or in street parks.
“I got to know LeBron a little bit and asked him out,” Sandler said. “I play a lot of basketball, so I wanted to get a quick tip.”
“And I said, ‘Do you suggest anything to improve my game?’ And he says, “It’s very simple. You should definitely get a full body transplant.” And so I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do that.
But how good is Sandler on the pitch? He really can play ball and has even played pickup games against NBA stars. Stars he has played with and against include Trae Young, Jordan Clarkson, Tobias Harris, Aaron Gordon and Boban Marjanovic.
What is LeBron James’ SpringHill Company?
LeBron James founded SpringHill Company with business partner Maverick Carter in 2020.
The SpringHill Company brought together James’ three other entertainment companies: SpringHill Entertainment, The Robot Company, and Uninterrupted. The company is named after the apartment complex in Akron where LeBron James grew up.
The SpringHill Company has produced several films and television shows. They have a two-year television contract with ABC and a four-year contract with Universal Pictures. In addition to Hustle, the company has another basketball film on its hands.
The title of the film is Shooting Stars and it is the biopic of LeBron James.
It is scheduled to be released on Peacock next year. Filming began last month in Akron and Cleveland, with high school basketball star and Oregon recruit Marquis “Mookie” Cook as James. The story is based on a 2009 book by Buzz Bissinger.
It’s about James’ high school career in St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron. Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin is one of the film’s top actors, playing Dru Joyce III, one of James’ closest friends.
Romeo Travis, Sian Cotton and Willie McGee, the remaining members of the “Fab Five”, are also portrayed in the film.
