New concept artwork sees Tom Hardy taking the role of Wolverine from Hugh Jackman in the MCU and fitting him into the character’s classic comic threads.
Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Wolverine and the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios), the film rights to the X-Men characters passed to Marvel Studios. The team’s founder, Professor X, has already made an appearance, albeit in the form of an alternate universe version of the character. Patrick Stewart returned to play the role, but it’s likely that the MCU’s X-Men of Earth-616 will be played by a new cast. Tom Hardy is one of the names frequently mentioned as a potential replacement for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
One of the few complaints fans had about Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine was the fact that they never saw the actor don the character’s classic comic book costume. Fixing that for Jackman’s potential MCU replacement, this new concept art features Tom Hardy in Logan’s iconic yellow suit.
Tom Hardy has previously appeared in The Dark Knight rises like Bane and more recently Sony’s poison and its 2021 sequel Venom: Let there be carnage, so he’s no stranger to the world of comic book movies. He certainly has the acting skills and physicality to take on the role of Marvel’s fan-favorite mutant. Check out how he might look in the role in this concept design shared on Instagram by artist mizuriau:
Whether Tom Hardy would actually star as Wolverine is up for debate, especially since his version of Eddie Brock was now seen during a post-credits scene for the MCU Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Hugh Jackman left some big footprints that hold a special place in the hearts of many Marvel fans. Hardy is certainly one of the few actors who has what it takes to rise to the challenge.
