Upcoming DC Movies and TV Shows Coming in 2022

If you’re a fan of the heroes and villains in the DC Universe, you’ll be pleased to know that a large number of movies and TV shows are on the way. We don’t have any news about a new Batman or Superman movie, but you can look forward to many other projects, many of which feature characters never before seen on screen.

Check out our list of upcoming releases below.

DC League Of Super Pets (Movie) – July 29, 2022

When Superman and the other members of the Justice League are kidnapped, it’s up to their super pets to save the day! This animated feature’s starry cast includes Dwayne Johnson as Krypto the Superdog, Kevin Hart as Ace the Bat-Hound, Keanu Reeves as Batman, and John Krasinski as Superman.

The Sandman (Netflix TV Show) – August 5, 2022

Don’t sleep on this one! Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book, this upcoming fantasy drama has been highly anticipated by fans of the source material. The series focuses on the title character (played by Tom Sturridge) who escapes from captivity after being accidentally imprisoned by a secret society. After his release, the Sandman (aka Dream) finds himself in the modern world, where he embarks on a mission of revenge against those who captured him.

Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook and Charles Dance are among the cast of this magical series, which we hope will closely follow Gaiman’s acclaimed work.

Black Adam (movie) – October 21, 2022

The film has been in the works since the early 2000s and is finally coming to the big screen, courtesy of Orphaned Director Jaume Collet Serra. Dwayne Johnson takes on the role of Black Adam, the anti-hero said to be as powerful as Superman, and the cast also includes Pierce Brosnan, Noah Centineo and Sarah Shahi. In the film, Black Adam joins the Justice Society of America, but when it comes to his warped morals, he doesn’t seem a good fit for the team.

Shazam! Wrath of the Gods (film) – December 21, 2022

2019 Shazam! was a welcome antidote to Zach Snyder’s accomplished but overly serious DC offerings. It was an often hilarious superhero flick that had a lot of heart, with a great Zachary Levi (Chuck) lighting up the screens as the title character.

Shazam! wrath of the gods sees Levi and Asher Angel return as Billy Batson and they are joined by their foster family who were transformed into superheroes towards the end of the last film. Batgirl (HBO Max Movie) – December 2022

Leslie Grace (in the heights) will star as Batgirl in an Origin film, which will also star JK Simmons as her father, Commissioner James Gordon, and Michael Keaton as Batman. Plot details are scarce at this point, but unlike Matt Reeves, it will be set in the DCEU The Batman, which took place in a separate universe. Brendan Fraser will also star in the film as Firefly, the pyromaniac supervillain who last starred on the now-cancelled TV show. Gotham.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (film) – March 17, 2023

James Wan returns to direct the second Aquaman film, and Jason Momoa will once again make waves as the titular character. According to the official synopsis, “when an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis and the world from irreversible devastation.” Business as usual for the wise King of Atlantis in his second solo Adventure.

The Flash (movie) – June 23, 2023

The MCU recently gave us its take on the multiverse, but now it’s time for some universe-hopping adventures within the DCEU. Ezra Miller returns as the Scarlet Speedster and he will be joined by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, both reprising their roles as Batman.

The film’s plot has apparently been leaked online and from what has been said there will be not one but three Barry Allens, all played by Ezra himself. Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and General Zod are also believed to be in the film, but until we have a proper synopsis (one that isn’t based on alleged leaks), we won’t take the word of the internet as gospel.

Blue Beetle (movie) – August 18, 2023

Production is now complete Blue Beetle, the first film to feature Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), the third character taking on the role of the hero who is given powerful alien blue armor when a blue beetle scarab is stuck to his spine. The film directed by Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) is the first standalone DC adaptation to feature a Latin American superhero. Not much is known about it at this time, but more information is expected soon.

Wonder Woman 3 (movie) – TBD

Patty Jenkins is set to direct her third Wonder Woman film, but there is currently no information on what the plot might be or when the film might go into production. According to Star Gal Gadot, it will be set in the present, but that’s all we know for now. If you’re a fan of the character, you can still take comfort in knowing that another movie starring the Amazonian warrior will be out sometime in the not too distant future.

Joker: Folie a Deux (Movie) – TBD

do we really need another one? joker Movie? And does it have to be a musical? I do not think so. As excellent as Todd Phillips’ film was, it seemed like a picture in its own right rather than a franchise starter. Still, a sequel is on the way whether we like it or not, and according to online reports, Lady Gaga is set to take on the role of Harley Quinn.

Joaquin Phoenix is set to reprise the role of the Joker, but the last thing I want to see on screen is a duet between Harley and Mister J. Of course, with the talented Phillips back at the helm, the film might turn out better than I’m expecting . But still… a musical? For real? Maybe the filmmakers are playing tricks on us!

Untitled Gotham PD/Arkham Series (HBO Max TV Show) – TBD

We don’t have a title for this series yet and we don’t know much about it. Originally it was supposed to be a spin-off of police procedures The Batman but according to the film’s director, Matt Reeves, the series will focus more on Arkham Asylum. We’re not sure if this series will actually happen – the original writer dropped out due to creative differences – so don’t get your hopes up on this one.

Penguin (HBO Max TV Show) – 2023

Here’s another spin-off from The Batman and it stars Colin Farrell, reprising his villainous role from the film. This is actually taking place and is scheduled to appear in 2023. We don’t have plot details, but connoisseurs have compared it to the Al Pacino film scarface. If that’s the case, we’re hoping Penguin will say hello to my little friends and unleash a colony of flightless birds on Gotham at some point during the series.

Rumored Projects

With the exception of Arkham Series that may or may not take place, the titles listed above will all be released at some point over the next few years. Several other projects are reportedly in development, but very little is known about them.
