The Orville: New Horizons will see Seth MacFarlane return as Captain Ed Mercer commanding The Orville on a new mission 400 years in the future, and will see the return of series regulars Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee and Mark Jackson experience , Chad L. Coleman, Jessica Szohr and Anne Winters. The official synopsis of the new series reads:

“Set 400 years in the future, The Orville: New Horizons finds the crew of the USS Orville continuing their mission of exploration while navigating both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.”

Although it took a long time to get it The Orville Back on screens, Seth MacFarlane was determined from the start to ensure the series was not forgotten or lost after the Disney-Fox merger. He previously said:

“All I can say is that we are working on it. We work very hard. We were hit by it like everyone else, but we’re working on it. We’ll be back soon folks from online speculation: will the show come back? The show is still a huge priority for me and for the cast and everyone else. We have a season to finish and we will finish it. For a show with a lot of prosthetic makeup that requires close contact, lots of background artists, it’s a tall order and you want to make sure you’re doing it in a way that keeps everyone safe and secure. Once we figure out those protocols, we’ll start again and you’ll get more Orville.”
