Wyatt Russell, who played John Walker in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter SoldierHe’s talked about where he wants the character’s story to go in the future.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Wyatt Russell’s John Walker as the new government-appointed Captain America, replacing Steve Rogers. When Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson finally landed the role of Cap at the end of the series, Walker teamed up with the mysterious Val and adopted the new moniker US Agent.
Now Wyatt Russell has spoken out about how he hopes John Walker’s story will continue should the US agent return to the MCU.
In a recent interview with Collider, Wyatt Russell was asked what his hopes are for the character of John Walker should he be asked to return to the character in the MCU.
With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier At the end of John Walker’s revelation as a US agent, it seems likely that Marvel is preparing to bring Walker back as the Anti-Cap. That thunderbolts Film currently in development at Marvel Studios could set an ideal stage for the return of the US agent.
Discussing his own hopes for the character’s MCU future, Wyatt Russell spoke about wanting to keep the Walker’s internal struggles alive:
“I haven’t even thought about what I hope for when the character comes back. There are so many different ways you can deal with it. I just hope that whatever it is continues along that line of this struggle with self. It’s something I can do, and I think it must be done. As long as he carries this conflict within himself, he can change his mind and seek therapy. There are many different paths you can take. I always just hope that it will go down an interesting path, but a specific path is not up to me.”
Given that John Walker clearly saw himself as the rightful heir to Captain America’s shield, there’s certainly room to further explore the character’s internal conflict following some of his more villainous acts.
While Wyatt Russell has denied receiving a call for the return thunderboltsthe secrecy surrounding Marvel projects makes it difficult to determine if he’s being completely honest.
