Disney is giving a first look at its upcoming family-friendly adventure series, National Treasure: Edge of History, at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
Disney+ released the first preview of its upcoming series, National Treasure: Edge of History.
The short clip, revealed during Comic-Con International 2022 in San Diego, offers a first look at the upcoming Disney+ series, which will serve as a spin-off of the original National Treasure Movies with Nicolas Cage.
Disney recently unveiled the official title for National Treasure: Edge of Historybut the series itself was announced in 2020. Disney+ ordered a 10-episode first season for the spinoff series in 2021. Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the original National Treasure Movies, is also attached to the series, and it was teased that there would be a sequel to the original Cage-led film for both streaming and “the big screen.”
National Treasure Heads on Disney+
“We’re definitely working on one [National Treasure] to stream and we’re working on one for the big screen,” Bruckheimer said at the time. “Hopefully they both come together and we’ll bring you another one National Treasure, but they are both very active…. The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but with a young cast. The one for the movies would be the same cast.”
The cast of Disney+ National Treasure This includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will play a treasure hunter named Billie, who will take on series protagonist Jess Morales, played by Lisette Alexis. The series also stars Zuri Reed as Tasha, Jordan Rodrigues as Ethan, Antonio Cipriano as Oren, Jake Austin Walker as Liam, and Lyndon Smith as FBI agent Ross. According to the synopsis, “The series explores contemporary themes of identity, community, historical authorship and patriotism, told from the perspective of Jess Morales, a twenty-year-old DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime with her diverse group of friends to save their… uncover mysterious family history and recover lost treasures.”
National Treasure was released in 2004 and followed historian Ben Gates (Cage) in his attempts to steal the Declaration of Independence. The film was followed by a 2007 sequel titled National Treasure: Book of Secrets. While Bruckheimer has stated that a National Treasure 3 was in the works, it never saw the light of day. In a March 2021 interview, Cage himself addressed rumors of a possible one National Treasure triquel. “I haven’t heard of any fur or hair from it,” he said. “So often these things we read about are just conjecture without any basis or basis for it.”
The ones from Disney+ National Treasure: Edge of History has no release date yet.
