Which team is the betting favorite to win the Pac-12 football title in 2022 depends on the betting site you choose.
Two sites that did post-spring Pac-12 odds have very different odds, which isn’t surprising given the amount of turnover at the quarterback position. Seven of the 12 teams in the conference are expected to have a recent transfer as starting quarterbacks next season. This leads to many different opinions about what will happen, even among the odds makers.
That BetOnline website has USC as a betting favorite, perhaps because Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams will be the Trojans’ quarterback and Lincoln Riley will be their head coach.
However, the BetRivers Arizona Website has Oregon as a betting favorite, perhaps because Auburn transfer Bo Nix has a good chance of being the Ducks’ starting quarterback and Oregon has a recent track record in the Pac-12.
Somewhat surprisingly, neither location has Utah as their favorite. While USC and Oregon are going through significant changes with new quarterbacks and new head coaches, Utah has plenty of stability as Kyle Whittingham enters his 18th season as the Utes’ head coach and 2021 first-team all-conference quarterback Cameron Rising for one more season returns .
Neither side gives Cal much of a chance, presumably because the Bears have few starters returning and will have a new quarterback — likely Jack Plummer, traded from Purdue. BetOnline puts Cal’s odds of winning the conference at 66-1 as the ninth-place team, and Bet Rivers Arizona gives Cal a much better chance at 20-1 (+2000) and also places Cal in the ninth-place team.
Of course if you like the bears you should take advantage of the BetOnline odds because a $10 bet on the bears would net you $660 if Cal surprises people and wins the 2022 Pac-12 title.
The Pac-12 doesn’t seem to be particularly strong in the upcoming season, so surprises are possible. With that in mind, I could bet $10 on Arizona at the BetOnline site because a Wildcats title would pay me a $5,000 payout.
