Hearts will melt this summer when Tohru Honda’s emotional tale in Fruits Basket -Prelude- officially ends. The special event film, distributed by Crunchyroll, will be released in select theaters in the United States and Canada on June 25, 28 and 29 with English subtitles and dubbing. Tickets go on sale Friday 3rd June UK, dubbed only, 20th July, ticket sales begin 24th June.

Debuting outside of Japan for the first time, the prequel film to the award-winning 2019 anime series Fruits Basket is a standalone story that takes fans back before Tohru came into contact with the Soma family – who evolved into animals of the zodiac can transform when embraced by the opposite sex – delves into the lives of her parents, Kyoto and Katsuya Honda, before their tragic deaths.

Based on the award-winning shoujo manga Fruits Basket, written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya (Phantom Dream; Twinkle Stars; Fruits Basket Another) and published by Hakusensha from 1998 to 2006, Fruits Basket – Prelude – is directed by Yoshihide Ibata (Fruits Basket ; Attack on Titan: Junior High). Studio animation is provided by TMS Entertainment and 8PAN working together to produce Fruits Basket 2019, Dr. STONE, Bakuon!! and more are known.

Fruits Basket -Prelude- features a script by Taku Kishimoto (Fruits Basket; Haikyu!!; 91 Days; Erased), character design by Masaru Shind? (Fruits Basket; My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU), Art Direction by Tamako Kamiyama and Music by Masaru Yokoyama (Fruits Basket; Horimiya; Your Lie in April). The film’s theme song, “Niji to Kite” (“Rainbow and Kite”), was performed by the Ohashi Trio. The total running time is 88 minutes.

The 2019 Fruits Basket anime series is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.
